San Martin Ranks Among Peru’s Leading Regions for Viable Tourism Projects by 2025
The San Martín region is strengthening its position this year as one of the areas with the most public investment in tourism in Peru. It also has many projects ready to be implemented. This is why it stands out at the national level.
According to the Invierte.pe platform of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Regional Government of San Martín has 12 active tourism projects. These projects have already been approved. They are also viable. Thanks to this, the region ranks among the leaders in the country.
This achievement is important, especially when compared to other regions. For example, Cusco only has four viable tourism projects. Lambayeque has 11. In contrast, San Martín will have 12 projects by 2025.

Furthermore, San Martín surpasses regions such as Arequipa, Amazonas, Piura, La Libertad, Cajamarca, and Junín. This demonstrates a great capacity to create and organize tourism projects. The Regional Government explained that achieving a viable project is not easy. First, the territory is studied. Then, specialized technical work is carried out. Environmental care is also evaluated. Finally, it is reviewed to see if the project contributes to the development of the region and the country.
As a result, San Martín shows steady progress. This is thanks to good planning. In addition, priority is given to the order of the territory and the value of its tourist attractions.
Key Projects for Tourism
Tourism projects are being developed in several important locations in the region. Among them are the Tarapoto Tourist Corridor and the Alto Mayo Tourist Corridor. There are also projects at well-known waterfalls.
For example, there are the Santa Cruz and Ishanga waterfalls in Tocache. El Breo waterfall and the Shihui and Maquisapa waterfalls in the Abiseo Destination are also included.

Added to these are the Carpishiyacu waterfall in Tarapoto and the Tingana Ecological Reserve. Santa Elena and the Tioyacu tourist attraction in Alto Mayo are also included. In addition, a tourist signage project is being implemented in that corridor.
Another important project is Washichay. This has already been implemented. Therefore, it shows real progress in investment. All these projects reflect a broad vision of tourism. Work is not limited to one place. Nor is it limited to a single type of attraction. Instead, the focus is on several destinations that support each other.
In the short term, the region will grow even more. Soon, the Sabaloyacu I and II waterfalls and the El Progreso waterfall will be viable. With this, San Martín will go from 12 to 14 tourism projects. Regional authorities pointed out that this progress is the result of teamwork. The Regional Government, Dircetur, and local governments are all involved. In addition, everyone is following a clear strategy called INPROTEX, which is part of the tourism plan for 2040.
The regional director of Foreign Trade and Tourism explained that this success is no accident. He pointed out that projects require order, consistency, and good management. He also stated that San Martín no longer just has potential. It now has projects ready to receive real investment.
These projects generate employment. They also improve tourism infrastructure. In addition, they strengthen services. Therefore, they benefit communities and the regional economy. While other regions still face difficulties, San Martín is moving forward with concrete actions. It has more projects. In addition, it has greater future investment. Thus, it confirms that its tourism management yields clear and measurable results.
