At the top of the hill, enormous and impressive stone blocks assembled without amalgam form one of the most important religious, political and cultural centers of the Inca Empire: Machu Picchu.
The Inca city, discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, was divided into two parts: an agricultural part with a wide platform or network of artificial terraces, and an urban part with beautiful buildings such as the Temple of the Sun. Its rich green terraces and the majestic Surrounding mountains create a beautiful landscape that exceeds all expectations.
Machu Picchu is now a World Heritage Site and the pride of Peru. Places of interest of Machu Picchu
Visiting the reserve, one witnesses the most exciting and incredible sights. Each has its own history and importance, but all owners share the beauty of great architecture. The palace has around 196 tourist attractions, including archaeological complexes, squares, temples, water fountains, monuments and residences; all of them related to each other and to the natural environment.
When you visit Machu Picchu in your Cusco 4 day itinerary, you can see two clearly marked areas divided by a wall about 400 meters long: one agricultural and the other urban. Agricultural areas are characterized by having terraces or platforms used to grow various food products. Very close to this area there are some small houses, probably peasant homes. On the other hand, the royal residence is located within the city and is the most refined, spacious and distributed residence in the area; The Sacred Plaza, the main ceremonial site of the city, the Intihuatana Pyramid, which houses the Great Sundial, the Three Portals Complex (which consists of a complex of three large portals) and the Condor Complex (which includes a temple used for rituals).
