During a day of dialogue on artificial intelligence applied to tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism established a Committee of Experts. This group will help create the National Framework for the use of artificial intelligence in the tourism sector. In this way, the country seeks to guide the digital transformation of tourism in a clear and orderly manner.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Aracelly Laca Ramos, participated in the event. The Executive Director of UN Tourism, Natalia Bayona, was also present. During her speech, she highlighted that new technologies help improve the competitiveness of destinations. She also explained that these tools support environmental protection and the sustainable development of tourism.

The committee was created because the country needs a clear plan for using artificial intelligence in tourism. Therefore, the authorities seek to promote the responsible use of this technology. At the same time, the work will follow the guidelines set forth in Law No. 31814 and the National Digital Transformation Policy to 2030.

This national framework will serve as a guide for many institutions. First, it will establish ethical principles and standards for the use of artificial intelligence. Then, it will outline best practices and actions for public entities, regional and local governments, tourism companies, trade associations, universities, and new technology ventures seeking to innovate in tourism.

In addition, the document will include several important topics for the sector. For example, it will discuss smart tourist destinations and data analysis to better understand travelers. It will also address digital marketing, tourist flow management, and environmental protection. Likewise, topics such as accessibility, inclusion, security, and cybersecurity will be discussed to improve the visitor experience.

The committee will bring together specialists from various sectors. Representatives from the public sector, private companies, and universities will participate. Experts in artificial intelligence and digital regulation will also be involved. The aim is to ensure technical work that is aligned with international standards and focused on concrete results.

This initiative is part of Peru’s work on the regional agenda for digital transformation in tourism promoted by UN Tourism. It is also related to the Ollantaytambo Declaration, an agreement made in the country in 2025 to promote the use of technology in tourism.

Finally, with the establishment of the Committee of Experts, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism reaffirms its commitment to digital transformation. It thus seeks to promote more modern, inclusive, and responsible tourism. In this way, it hopes to improve the visitor experience, strengthen companies in the sector, and care for the country’s tourist destinations.
