  • The variable temperatures mean emphasis on layering: Bring high quality thermal, weatherproof, and waterproof layers. Nighttime temperatures near Humantay Lake often drop below freezing (0°C / 32°F), so being able to insulate your warmth is crucial.
  • In regards to what backpack to bring: A Small daypack of 20L – 30L is sufficient for carrying your key items (water, camera, layers) without wearing you down on the trek.
  • At this elevation and hiking: Comfort in your feet is your top priority. Durable and broken in Trekking Boots are a must, especially navigating uneven and wet terrain. Don’t forget your gloves, hat, and scarf for the cold at Salkantay Pass.
  • In regards to your health and hydrating option: Always carry a reusable water bottle and high energy snacks (nuts, bars). Bring your required personal medication and altitude sickness pills are strongly recommended (if above sea level).
