The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported that Peru is using artificial intelligence to improve tourism. This technology helps make the sector more competitive, sustainable, and inclusive. This was explained by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Aracelly Laca, during the UN Tourism General Assembly in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Deputy Minister is leading the Peruvian delegation at this important global event. She also participated as a keynote speaker in the debate “The Transformation of Tourism through Artificial Intelligence.” There, she spoke about how Peru is using AI to create a more modern and resilient tourism industry in the face of change.

She also explained that this strategy is in line with the National Digital Transformation Policy to 2030 and Law No. 31814, which promotes the responsible use of AI in the country’s development. She also mentioned the new National Strategic Plan for Tourism (PENTUR). Thanks to these efforts, Peru is designing a national framework that will guide the use of AI in smart destination management, security, accessibility, visitor analysis, and environmental care.

During her presentation, Aracelly Laca emphasized that artificial intelligence does not replace people. On the contrary, it helps them work better. With this tool, the tourist experience can be improved and more accurate decisions can be made.

She also presented two important projects. The first is the Tourism Facilitation Platform, which will have a virtual assistant in several languages to assist visitors. The second is a project that uses tourism data to support rural communities. This project won the 2025 Public Innovation Challenges competition, which promotes new ideas together with startups and local populations.

Finally, the deputy minister’s visit also served to strengthen relations with the new Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Shakia Nasser Al Nowais. Thanks to this, Peru is reinforcing its role as a key country in global tourism.

Fact:

During the General Assembly, it was confirmed that Peru will be part of the UN Tourism Executive Council for the period 2025–2027, along with Brazil and Argentina. This achievement demonstrates the country’s leadership in the region and its commitment to international cooperation.
