Barranco Improves Safety for Tourists and Residents With Smart Cameras
First and foremost, Peru wants tourists to feel safe. That is why Teresa Mera, Minister of Tourism, met with Jessica Vargas, Mayor of Barranco. The objective was clear: to improve security in the district and continue investing in important projects for everyone.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism. Other authorities from the tourism sector also participated. Among them were the Deputy Minister of Tourism and the president of PromPerú. Technicians who help plan and execute the projects also attended.
One of the main topics was the installation of new security cameras. These cameras are modern and intelligent. They are also part of a large tourism security project. To make this possible, the government invested more than three million soles in this system.

The cameras feature advanced technology, as they can recognize faces, read license plates, and rotate in all directions without stopping throughout the day, allowing for better surveillance of the streets of Barranco and quick action in the event of any danger. Thanks to this system, the municipality’s monitoring center will be able to see everything in real time. This will allow security guards and the police to respond more quickly. The aim is to prevent theft and other problems.
According to reports, the system will begin operating this month. This will benefit more than 15,000 residents. In addition, thousands of tourists who visit Barranco every day will feel safer walking through its streets.
Finally, there was also talk of improving historic sites in the district. These include the Bridge of Sighs, La Ermita Church, and the municipal park. The minister explained that tourism grows better when there is security, beautiful spaces, and a better quality of life for everyone.
