The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) will take part in the eleventh edition of the Adidas Andes Race 2026, one of the most prominent trail running competitions in South America, scheduled for August 14 and 15 in the Cusco region. This initiative is part of the institution’s strategy aimed at diversifying its tourism offerings and establishing Peru as a leading destination in the sports, adventure, and nature sectors.

For the second consecutive year, PROMPERÚ and Andes Race are joining forces to promote this international competition, which will bring together more than 1,200 runners from Peru, Latin America, the United States, and Europe. The race will take place in the magnificent natural and cultural settings of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, offering competitors a one-of-a-kind experience that blends sports, history, culture, and nature.

As part of this collaboration, PROMPERÚ will launch an international outreach campaign targeting Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador, with an estimated reach of more than seven million people. It will also support the production and broadcast of a documentary in partnership with Sony Pictures, along with promotional activations, exhibition spaces showcasing tourist destinations, and branding efforts that will help strengthen the competition’s international profile and position Peru as a tourist destination.

Sports tourism represents a valuable opportunity to boost local economies. Various international studies indicate that travelers drawn by sporting events tend to travel with family or friends, extend their stays in the places they visit, and spend at above-average levels, which benefits hotels, restaurants, tour operators, transportation companies, and local entrepreneurs.

Through this participation, PROMPERÚ reaffirms its commitment to expanding the country’s tourism offerings, fostering innovative experiences that contribute to the sustainable development of its regions and open up new opportunities for the communities connected to tourism.

The initiative was unveiled on June 23 at the PROMPERÚ Auditorium and featured PROMPERÚ’s Director of Tourism Promotion, María del Sol Velásquez; Claudio Castillo, General Manager of Andes Race; along with representatives from the Municipality of Miraflores and the AJE Group, sponsors of the competition.

Recognized as Peru’s most iconic trail running event, the Adidas Andes Race will celebrate its eleventh edition on August 14 and 15, 2026, in Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The competition brings together national and international runners who travel routes inspired by ancient Andean trails, making it a tourism promotion platform with global reach.
