Access to the Inca Bridge in Machu Picchu Will Be Closed from September 20 to 25
Route 1-D toward Puente Inca, which is part of Circuit 1 of the Machu Picchu site, will be temporarily closed from September 20 to 25, 2026, due to emergency work to be carried out in the area. This was reported by the Regional Office of Foreign Trade, Tourism, and Handicrafts (Gercetur) of the Cusco Regional Government.
The closure is due to urgent structural repairs on a section of a pre-Hispanic wall and a road platform in the Puente Inca area, both of which show signs of instability. According to the official statement, the work aims to preserve the site’s archaeological heritage and ensure the safety of visitors to the area.
During the closure, visitors who have purchased or reserved tickets to enter via Route 1-D will be automatically rerouted to Route 1-C (Intipunku Entrance Route), which will continue to operate normally for visitors.
Gercetur also noted that the work schedule could vary depending on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the project, and that the authorities in charge will provide timely notice of any adjustments.
In light of this situation, the Cusco Regional Government asked travel agencies, tour operators, guides, and other service providers with scheduled visits to Puente Inca during those dates to take the necessary precautions.
Similarly, it urged them to coordinate in advance to avoid setbacks and ensure good service for tourists, as well as to stay informed of official announcements regarding possible changes to the announced measures.
