None of this happened by chance. It was thanks to the hard work, passion, and unity of many people. During October Big Day 2025, San Martín was recognized as the region with the most birds recorded in the country.

A total of 585 bird species and 185 lists were recorded on the eBird platform. Thanks to this achievement, the region has become a model for birdwatching tourism and Amazonian nature conservation.

On October 11, many people participated in this major global event. It was organized by the Cornell University Ornithology Laboratory. The goal was to count how many different birds could be seen in a single day. To this end, observers, communities, and various institutions worked together to showcase the enormous natural wealth of San Martín.

During the day, very special places were visited. Among them were the Cordillera Escalera, the Shunté and Mishollo Forest, the Cordillera Azul National Park, and the Alto Mayo Protected Forest. In addition, local projects such as Yakukawsanapa and El Capito in Plataforma – Flor de Café joined in. Ecotourism concessions that care for the Amazonian forests also participated.

San Martín’s triumph demonstrates its commitment to conservation and responsible tourism. When science, nature, and the community work together, the results can fly very high.
