Safer Mountains: Congress Officially Recognizes Hiking and Trekking Guides
Members of Congress approved a very important measure to protect all travelers visiting our country. As a result, guides who accompany hikers in the mountains will now be officially recognized by law. First and foremost, this decision aims to make dangerous hikes much safer for tourists visiting from other countries. Additionally, all lawmakers voted in favor of this change because they want tourism in Peru to be the best in the world.
It turns out that Congressman Alejandro Soto Reyes was the one who drafted this bill to help these workers. However, there was previously a minor legal issue because hiking guides were not mentioned in official government documents.
On this topic, legislator Jorge Zeballos explained that it was high time to legally recognize these mountain experts. In other words, even though these guides study hard at technical schools, the old law didn’t take them into account, and that wasn’t fair to them. Because of this, the new proposal aims to ensure that our country’s rules reflect the reality of the young people studying to become guides.
Therefore, this change is essential because so many foreign tourists love hiking in our mountains and exploring beautiful landscapes. In fact, almost all visitors seeking adventure in Peru prefer to hike in incredible places like those found in Cusco or Ancash. At the same time, by having certified and well-trained guides, we prevent accidents and ensure that international visitors have complete confidence in Peru.
Consequently, the new rule states that to become a guide, one must hold an official degree from a higher education institution. For example, you can be a technical professional in tourism or a mountain expert to legally work accompanying travelers throughout the country. Likewise, people who studied at the university can work in this field if their credentials are properly registered with the Peruvian government authorities.
National Interest
On the other hand, members of Congress also decided that supporting tourism in many regions of our country is a very urgent task for everyone. Specifically, places like Arequipa, Cajamarca, Piura, and Callao will receive more support so that their monuments and culture can become famous around the world. Finally, this great news was achieved thanks to the combined efforts of many different bills that came together to help our beautiful country progress even further.
