Peru Focuses on Luxury Tourism in Hong Kong
The Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ) participated for the first time in the International Travel Expo (ITE) Hong Kong, one of the most important tourism platforms in Asia, held from June 11 to 14.
Through its Trade Office in Hong Kong, PROMPERÚ presented Peru’s tourism offerings to industry specialists, tour operators, and tourists from Greater China and other parts of Asia. The main objective was to consolidate Peru’s position as an attractive destination for the luxury, nature, culture, and authentic experiences segments.
Participation in ITE Hong Kong represents a crucial step forward in the tourism promotion plan led by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), through PROMPERÚ, to increase the country’s visibility in long-haul markets with high growth potential and high tourist spending.
During the expo, PROMPERÚ highlighted the premium experiences that Peru offers, as well as its natural, historical, and cultural richness. Furthermore, working meetings were held with leaders in the Asian tourism industry, which allowed for the identification of new promotional opportunities and the analysis of current trends guiding the decisions of high-spending tourists in the region.
Thus, participation in this prestigious forum contributes to strengthening Peru’s position among Chinese travelers residing in Hong Kong, a segment characterized by its interest in exclusive experiences, tailor-made itineraries, wellness, ecotourism, and cultural visits.
The Chinese traveler residing in Hong Kong is considered one of the most active and highest-spending travelers in Asia. Indeed, they are travelers who travel abroad repeatedly each year and allocate a considerable budget to global travel, culinary delights, and luxury experiences.
Moreover, they are highly digitally savvy travelers who plan their trips well in advance, seeking unique destinations that allow them to connect with local customs, the natural environment, and exclusive travel offerings.
International tourism data demonstrates the growing attraction of Chinese citizens to Peru. During 2025, 54,470 travelers from that country arrived, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the previous year. This positive trend continued throughout 2026, with 22,663 visitors recorded through April, representing a 21% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
Finally, PROMPERÚ, an agency attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), continues to strengthen the country’s tourism promotion in strategic markets, encouraging the arrival of international visitors and fostering the financial development of Peru’s tourist destinations.
