Peru ranks among the top ten countries in the Americas for growth in business tourism. It also stands out in incentive travel, conferences, and trade shows—a sector known as MICE.

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism. According to the 2025 ranking by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the country is gaining ground in this international market.

The ICCA GlobeWatch report compiles data on international meetings and events. It also shows which countries hosted the most events in 2025.

Peru ranked eighth in the Americas. In total, it hosted 93 international and regional conferences in 2025. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years, with a 111.4% rise from 2023 and a 52.5% rise from 2024.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Aracelly Laca said that these figures demonstrate the interest in hosting major events in Peru. She also noted that the country’s cuisine, culture, and tourist attractions help it compete more effectively. In her view, Peru has significant potential in MICE tourism.

Lima Stands Out as a Mice Destination

Lima also stood out in the same report. The Peruvian capital ranked third among the cities in the Americas with the highest growth in meetings tourism in 2025.

Lima achieved this ranking by hosting 72 international conferences. Additionally, it saw a 67.4% increase compared to 2024. With this progress, it surpassed major cities such as Mexico City, São Paulo, and Bogotá.

The city ranking includes more than 2,400 destinations in the Americas. In addition to Lima, Cusco and Arequipa also appear. Piura, Chiclayo, Juliaca, and Puno are also listed.

Laca explained that PromPerú works with convention bureaus, associations, universities, and companies. In this way, they seek to strengthen new MICE destinations in different regions of the country.

According to Mincetur, each MICE traveler spends an average of US$1,321. That amount exceeds what a tourist traveling for vacation typically spends. On the other hand, nearly 4 out of every 10 people who attend international conferences return to Peru later to spend their vacations.
