Peru and China Sign Agreement to Boost Tourism Through CANATUR
The National Chamber of Tourism of Peru (Canatur) signed an agreement with tourism authorities from Hangzhou and Yuhang, China. Both parties aim to work together to promote travel, culture, and tourism innovation between Peru and China.
The signing took place during Peru Travel Mart 2026, the country’s most important tourism trade show. This agreement will help Peru increase its presence in China, one of the world’s largest tourism markets. It will also enable the creation of projects focused on promotion, cultural exchange, digital tourism, and new platforms to showcase Peruvian destinations over the next three years.
“At Canatur, we are driving an international agenda to open up more opportunities for Peruvian tourism. Furthermore, we seek to forge key connections and bring Peru closer to high-potential markets like China. This agreement will help us promote our destinations, strengthen cultural exchange, and build a tourism sector that is more competitive, sustainable, and connected to the world,” said José Koechlin von Stein, president of Canatur.
Among the benefits for Peru are more promotional opportunities in China and a stronger relationship between tourism companies and institutions in both countries. The agreement also aims to share best practices regarding heritage, culture, and tourism management.
In addition, the agreement includes plans to establish “Casa Perú” in Yuhang, a district of Hangzhou. This space would serve as a permanent showcase for Peruvian culture, Peruvian cuisine, and tourist destinations, thereby helping more people in China to learn more about the country.
For his part, Chen Bin, a representative of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism, highlighted the importance of this partnership. “Hangzhou and Peru possess great cultural richness and a valuable heritage. This agreement opens an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between our institutions and build long-term bridges of tourism and cultural cooperation,” he noted.
Finally, the signing of the agreement between China and Peru took place during the Peru Travel Mart 2026. This event is being held from May 14 to 16 at the Sheraton Lima Historic Center and brings together tour operators, international buyers, and tourism representatives. Its goal is to showcase Peru as a competitive, diverse, and attractive destination to the world.
