Peru Named Best Destination for Chinese Tourists for its Commitment to Sustainability
Peru received an award from China’s Meadin Research Institute. This institute is very important in matters of culture and tourism. It also recognized the country as the “Destination with the greatest commitment to Chinese tourists.” The award was presented to the Peruvian Trade Office in Beijing. The ceremony took place in the city of Hangzhou on November 20.
The institute uses a special model to select the winners. First, it reviews how well known the destination is in China. Then it analyzes whether it offers new experiences. It also evaluates its care for the environment and its work to maintain sustainable tourism. Based on these factors, it identifies the destinations that stand out most among Chinese tourists.
This recognition shows the efforts of the Peruvian government and communities. It also reflects the work of regional authorities and the private sector. Everyone is seeking responsible tourism. That is why they protect archaeological sites and ancient traditions. They also seek to enable communities to participate in tourism and obtain economic benefits.
Before presenting the award, PROMPERÚ showcased Peruvian cuisine. During the presentation, it explained how food attracts tourists seeking luxury experiences. It also highlighted that Peruvian cuisine is a blend of many cultures. For example, it highlighted chifa, which combines Chinese techniques with Peruvian flavors.
PROMPERÚ works to raise awareness of Peru in China. It also seeks to showcase the country’s natural, cultural, and gastronomic wealth. The aim is to achieve a stronger presence in this Asian country.
China is a very important market for Peruvian tourism. In fact, it is the Asian country that sends the most tourists to Peru. Between January and October 2025, 33,780 Chinese tourists arrived. This represents a 13.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
