New Jorge Chávez Airport finishes First Year with 25.8 Million Passengers

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), together with Lima Airport Partners (LAP), presented a report on the first year of operations of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport, considered the most important airport modernization project in recent Peru’s history.

The MTC stated that the terminal registered high efficiency indicators, handling more than 25.79 million passengers. The new Jorge Chávez Airport is home to 23 airlines that directly connect Lima with 68 national and international destinations, adding new routes and increasing flight frequency to key markets in the Americas and Europe.

This outstanding commercial and logistical performance placed Jorge Chávez as the second most punctual airport globally, according to the ranking by the consulting firm Cirium. This progress is supported by the government’s “Open Skies” strategy, which aims to close the first half of this year with at least 15 signed and active memoranda of understanding to boost the transportation market.

Minister Aldo Prieto emphasized this achievement, stating: “The first year of operation of the new Jorge Chávez International Airport demonstrates that major infrastructure projects generate concrete impacts on people’s lives and on the country’s competitiveness. Today, Peru has a world-class airport that strengthens our connectivity with the world, boosts tourism, facilitates trade, and creates new development opportunities for millions of Peruvians. This airport is a fundamental piece of the national vision we seek to build.”

In the context of this anniversary, Addendum No. 9 was signed, a legal tool that will directly benefit about one million peruvian passengers a year by definitively eliminating the Unified Airport Use Fee (TUUA) for domestic flight connections, thus facilitating transit travel within the national territory without additional costs.
