In this new edition, Machu Picchu stood out in two key categories. First, it ranked number one as the “Best Place to Visit in Central and South America.” It also ranked number eight among “The Best Places to Visit in the World.” These distinctions confirm its enormous historical, cultural, and natural value. They also reinforce its reputation as a unique destination.

Additionally, this year South America accounted for 50.7% of international tourists arriving in Peru. Within that group, the most visited place by foreigners was the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. This further highlights its strong appeal. Furthermore, this year it obtained its third certification as a Carbon Neutral destination.

This recognition was awarded by the Green Initiative organization. As a result, the sanctuary has established itself as an example of responsible tourism and care for the planet.

Finally, the Best Vacations ranking evaluates more than 1,500 destinations around the world each year. To do so, the U.S. News travel team analyzes the opinions of thousands of users. They vote and rate each category. In this way, the result reflects the real experience of travelers.
