Inti Raymi Shines in China: Peru Showcases Its Living Culture to the Asian Market
The charm of the Andes has arrived in the heart of Shanghai. For the first time, PROMPERÚ presented a version of Inti Raymi, Cusco’s great Festival of the Sun, in China to travel, luxury, and lifestyle journalists, as well as Chinese content creators and opinion leaders.
To make this happen, PROMPERÚ collaborated with EMUFEC. Thus, the Beaufort Terrace at Yu Garden, a very famous spot in Shanghai, became a window into the ancient Inca Empire. EMUFEC’s official troupe put on a striking performance. Furthermore, guests felt the ceremonial power of Inti Raymi, an ancestral festival that showcases the union between people, nature, and the Sun.
The event was not merely an artistic show. On the contrary, PROMPERÚ presented it as an experience to showcase Peru as a destination with living history, ancient culture, great food, stunning nature, and luxury travel.
During the event, guests explored various itineraries in Peru. First, they experienced the historical and culinary treasures of Lima and Cusco. Then they discovered the richness of the Peruvian Amazon and the luxury and wellness options in Arequipa and Puno. In addition, the event helped forge ties with Chinese media and digital platforms. This is important because an increasing number of Chinese travelers are seeking authentic, culturally rich, and tailor-made destinations.

The event was part of Peru’s presence at the ITB China trade show. The show took place in Shanghai from May 26 to 28 and brought together more than 900 tourism companies and 1,700 specialized buyers.
There were also other promotional activities. At the Peruvian booth, visitors could meet the Inca and the Coya, two characters representing Inti Raymi who reinforce Peru’s cultural image in Asia.
Finally, MINCETUR’s participation, through PROMPERÚ, demonstrates the Peruvian government’s commitment. The goal is to position the country as a destination offering living culture and unique experiences for Chinese travelers.
