The Huascaran cable car is starting to look more realistic. First, Proinversión said that the project is feasible. Then, the Regional Government of Áncash outlined the next steps. They will hold a road show to seek investors. After that, they will prepare the technical file to start the work.

Governor Koki Noriega Brito explained why this is important. With its viability confirmed, the project now has its own unique investment code. In addition, it can now be officially promoted to private companies. The presentation was scheduled for the end of this month. However, it could be moved due to the situation with the central government.

Road Show to Attract Private Investment

The idea is to invite representatives from various ministries. For example, the Ministry of Economy and Finance would attend. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism would also attend. In addition, the Ministry of the Environment would be present. This would showcase the tourist value of the cable car. At the same time, its economic impact would be demonstrated. The environmental care that is being sought would also be explained.

The plan would use the tax-for-works model. They also want to move forward with a fast-track scheme. This would speed up the paperwork and reduce some of the processing times. According to the regional government, this could attract companies looking for large projects, especially those interested in tourism with high impact and good visibility.

The estimated investment is $95 million. Therefore, it will be a large project. Even so, they hope that the investment model will help to make it a reality.

Tourism Capacity and Projection

The cable system could transport up to 200 people per hour. This would allow more visitors to reach the area around the snow-capped Huascarán mountain. Furthermore, Huascarán is a natural symbol of Peru. It is also the highest mountain in the country. For this reason, the project aims to attract tourists from many places.

In Ancash, they say that this project would improve the regional tourist circuit. This circuit includes natural landscapes and cultural sites. In addition, several of these places are internationally recognized. So, the goal is clear. They want Ancash (Huaraz) to be one of the most visited destinations in Peru, with better organization and services.

Tourism and Conservation in Huascarán National Park

The cable car would not be alone. Other sustainable tourism projects would also be implemented. At the same time, environmental conservation actions are planned within Huascarán National Park. To this end, 30 million soles have already been allocated. This money would be used for protection and development, with concrete measures in the territory.

Regional authorities also discussed nearby rural communities. According to them, consensus has already been reached with these communities. Thus, the project could move forward with clear rules. In addition, they seek to respect the environment. At the same time, they want the benefits to reach more people in the area.

Now that feasibility has been approved, the cable car project is entering a decisive stage. From this point on, how it will be built will be defined. It will also be seen how much it will help tourism in Ancash. And, of course, its impact on tourism in Peru will be measured.
