Easter Week: Arequipa Projects Arrival of 40,000 Tourists
During Holy Week, Arequipa expects to welcome nearly 40,000 tourists. Visitors will arrive from Peru and abroad. They will explore various tourist sites across the eight provinces. In addition, many will take advantage of the trip to experience new cultures.
The regional manager of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Jorge Meza Cruz, explained the forecast. He indicated that tourists will arrive between March 29 and April 5, 2026. He also noted that these dates coincide with the long holiday weekend.
During those days, many people will be traveling throughout the country. That is why Arequipa is preparing to welcome them. Families also view this time as an opportunity to rest and take trips.
Jorge Meza mentioned some popular destinations. For example, he mentioned the Colca Valley and the Historic Center. He also highlighted the Arequipa countryside and the Majes Valley. Additionally, the beaches and other sites will be heavily visited. Consequently, a significant influx of tourists is expected throughout the region.
Meanwhile, his department has begun inspection visits. These inspections aim to ensure the safety of tourists. Teams are also touring several key locations in the region.
The official announced a visit to the Colca Valley, in Caylloma. There, they will inspect the overlooks. In particular, they will assess the condition of the railings to prevent accidents.
This measure is being taken in response to an incident that occurred last year. At that time, a tourist fell from a lookout point and lost her life, which raised concerns and led to the implementation of stricter safety measures throughout the area.
Finally, tourism staff will also review other aspects. For example, they will assess services and general conditions. In this way, they aim to ensure a positive experience for all visitors.
