Congress Promotes Inti Raymi as Cultural Heritage to UNESCO

The plenary session of the Congress of the Republic unanimously approved the ruling declaring the inscription of Inti Raymi on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to be of national interest.

The legislative proposal received 99 votes in the first instance. Subsequently, the plenary session decided to exempt the text from a second vote, also with 99 votes in favor.

The main objective is to promote the candidacy of Inti Raymi before the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. In this way, the plenary session tasks the Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, to coordinate with the Regional Government of Cusco the necessary actions to support this nomination.

With this, the legal measure seeks the dissemination, protection, and promotion of one of the most representative cultural expressions of the country and one of the most important cultural manifestations of the Andean world. Furthermore, the national legislature approved the proposed legislation that seeks to include professionals in food engineering, food science, food processing, and agro-industrial fields as healthcare professionals.

This initiative amends Law 23536, which establishes the general regulations governing the work and careers of healthcare professionals.
