BCRP Unveils New 1-Sol Coin for Peru–U.S. Bicentennial Relations
The Central Reserve Bank of Peru has put a new coin into circulation. Furthermore, the BCRP explained this decision in Circular No. 0009-2026-BCRP. In it, the Bank states that its Board of Directors approved the issuance of a silver coin for numismatic purposes. In other words, this coin is intended primarily for collectors.
Thus, the BCRP is putting a silver coin with a face value of S/1 into circulation. This coin commemorates the bicentennial—that is, the 200th anniversary—of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and the United States of America.
Additionally, the coin costs S/338 according to data current as of April 30, 2026. It also stands out because it features the Inca city of Machu Picchu alongside the Freedom Tower, known in Spanish as the Torre de la Libertad de Miami.
Details of the Coin
In 2026, the 200th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Peru and the United States of America is celebrated. These relations began in 1826. For this reason, the BCRP issued a new silver coin commemorating this important celebration between the two countries.
The coin’s specifications are as follows:
- Denomination: S/ 1.00
- Alloy: 0.925 silver
- Fine weight: 1 troy ounce
- Diameter: 37.00 mm
- Quality: Proof
- Edge: Ridged
- Year of minting: 2026
- Maximum mintage: 5,000 units.
Likewise, on the reverse side of the coin, the Inca city of Machu Picchu is depicted on the left. Below this image is the year 1826. On the right is the Freedom Tower, located in Miami. Next to the tower is the year 2026.
Also, around the top of the coin is the text “200 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS.” Below it appears the phrase “PERU – USA.”
Meanwhile, the obverse of the coin features the Coat of Arms of Peru. It also includes the text “CENTRAL RESERVE BANK OF PERU,” the year of minting, and the denomination “ONE SOL.”
Finally, the BCRP circular, which has already been issued, grants legal tender status to this coin. Therefore, the coin has been in circulation since April 30, 2026. Additionally, buyers and numismatics enthusiasts can find more details and check its price on the Bank’s official online store website. As is well known, the price of this coin may change depending on cost fluctuations, for example, when the price of silver rises.
