Arequipa Launches Two New Tourist Routes to Strengthen Geotourism
To promote geotourism in Arequipa, the authorities presented two new tourist circuits in the Colca and Andagua Volcanoes Geopark. This place is very special because UNESCO recognized it as a Global Geopark. It is also located in the provinces of Caylloma and Castilla.
The Regional Office of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Arequipa led the presentation. This entity explains that geotourism combines nature, science, and culture. It also points out that it encourages responsible and sustainable travel.
New Tourist Routes
The first circuit is in the district of Callalli, in the province of Caylloma. There, visitors will see a very unique geology. They will also observe impressive high Andean landscapes and learn about a valuable cultural heritage. In addition, this tour helps to understand how the history of the land is related to the traditions of the communities.
The second circuit is located in the Valley of the Volcanoes, in Castilla. This area is famous because it preserves one of the most complete volcanic landscapes in Peru. During the visit, people will be able to observe volcanoes, lava fields, and also interact with local communities. For this reason, this route has become an important model for geotourism in the country.
It is important to remember that geotourism is different from ordinary tourism. Instead of just looking at landscapes, it seeks to help visitors understand their geological origins and their relationship with people’s lives. In this way, it promotes educational and sustainable tourism.
With these new routes, the regional government of Arequipa is expanding its tourism offerings. It is also creating new economic opportunities for the residents of the Geopark. Finally, the region is strengthening its position as an innovative and sustainable destination on a global level.
