Train service between Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu resumes operations

This morning, Ferrocarril Transandino S.A. (FTSA), the company that operates the railway to Machu Picchu, announced the resumption of train service on the Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu route. The company added that this decision was made following coordination with the relevant authorities.

After learning of this measure, the company PeruRail stated that it will gradually restore its rail services.

The first authorized departures will run according to schedule, although they may be subject to change based on updated planning, which will be announced in due course through official channels or directly at train stations.

During the morning, the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco (DDC) activated the protocol for handling unforeseen circumstances and force majeure events.

Thanks to this measure, appropriate accommodations will be provided so that those affected by the temporary suspension of transport service can reschedule or request a refund for their entrance tickets to the Llaqta of Machu Picchu.

Train operations to Machu Picchu were halted on Tuesday, August 4, due to a forest fire that caused rockfalls at kilometer 107 of the railway line.

Since the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, a team of more than 40 responders — made up of forest firefighters, members of the Peruvian Army, and workers — resumed efforts to fight and extinguish the forest fire.
