Promperú will promote air routes between Juliaca and Bolivia

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported that, due to the increase in travelers arriving by air in Puno, it will explore options to strengthen the Juliaca-Cusco connection and develop international flights to Bolivia, starting with the cities of La Paz and Santa Cruz.

During the first half of 2026, the Juliaca airport recorded 156,024 passengers, a figure representing a 51.4% increase compared to the same period in 2019.

Mincetur has been promoting a work plan aimed at strengthening Puno’s tourism sector and transforming this region into a destination with better connectivity and greater competitiveness.

Within this framework, Liz Chirinos Cuadros, Deputy Minister of Tourism, met with representatives from the Puno region to establish priority actions that will drive the development of local tourism and the consolidation of competitive destinations.

Among the key issues discussed with Richard Hancco (Regional Governor of Puno) and Maribel Choque (Regional Director of Foreign Trade and Tourism), the topic of air connectivity stood out.

During the meeting, they reviewed joint initiatives between Mincetur, PromPerú, and the regional government to promote the recently launched “Marca Puno” brand, as well as to strengthen national and international promotional campaigns aimed at increasing the destination’s visibility and attracting more tourists.

The agenda also included measures to capitalize on the tourism potential of the Festival of the Virgin of Candelaria, with the goal of encouraging attendees to visit other attractions in the area.

Finally, discussions focused on the Cerro Azoguini-Lake Titicaca Cable Car project, coordination efforts to promote the region’s four tourist routes, and the exploration of potential financing mechanisms for tourism investment projects.
