The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú) is participating, through the Peru brand (Marca Perú), in Panam Sports Week, an international event taking place in Lima from August 24 to 28. The event brings together sports leaders and officials from the 41 countries that make up Panam Sports, with an agenda that includes strategic dialogues, discussion forums, and other activities.

Promperú, an agency under the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), aims to promote Peru not only as a host of major sporting events but also as a safe, attractive tourist destination ready to offer world-class experiences.

In this context, Teresa Mera, Promperú Director met with Neven Ilic Álvarez, head of Panam Sports ,the organization responsible for organizing the upcoming 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, and with Asafa Powell, a former Jamaican sprinter and one of the greatest legends in the history of sprinting.

Powell is recognized worldwide for his remarkable career in the 100-meter dash and for being one of the athletes who paved the way for Jamaica’s dominance in sprint events. The former athlete held the world record in the 100-meter dash twice and is nicknamed “The Sub-10 King” because he clocked times under 10 seconds in that event on 97 occasions.

This meeting provides an ideal opportunity to strengthen relationships with key figures in the continent’s sports community and reinforce the visibility of the “Marca Perú” brand on the global stage.

Similarly, Teresa Mera showcased the significance of the “Marca Perú” brand, a symbol of identity, pride, and trust that highlights the country’s finest offerings to the world, through a selection of Peruvian products. During the event, she was also honored by the organizers.

In addition, iPeru was present, offering visitors tourism information and advice, helping to promote the wide variety of destinations and experiences the country has to offer.

Thus, Promperú’s participation, through the “Marca Perú” brand, in Panam Sports Week represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen ties with key players in international sports, position Peru as a country capable of hosting world-class events, and showcase the diversity and quality of our export offerings to new audiences.
