Pope Leo XIV will arrive in Peru on November 11, to visit several cities in the country. The pontiff will be in Peru from November 11 to 17 of 2026, to carry out an apostolic visit that will include activities in Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa, the Holy See announced this Tuesday through its Press Office director, Matteo Bruni.

This will be the first time the pontiff has visited the country since his election as Francis’s successor, and it will be one of the most significant religious events for the Peruvian Church in recent years.

This trip is part of Leo XIV’s first Latin American tour, scheduled for November 6 to 17, which will begin in Uruguay, continue in Argentina, and conclude in Peru.

The Vatican confirmed that the pontiff will remain in Uruguay from November 6 to 8; in Argentina from the 8 to the 11; and will arrive in Peru on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 11, where he will stay until the 17th.

On this matter, Kurth Mendoza, a specialist in Catholic Church affairs, explained that the mission sent by the Vatican aimed to verify aspects related to security, infrastructure, and coordination with the media for the Holy Father’s visit.

“This commission has come to confirm the sites that the church authorities have proposed. [Is this a single visit, or could there be another?] There could be another one to work out the security plan; he’s coming with security personnel from Rome. But this commission submits a report to the Holy Father, and it is ultimately the Holy Father who decides whether he will actually visit a given city,” he noted.

Separately, President Keiko Fujimori announced that her administration will make all necessary resources available to the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference to begin coordination efforts ahead of Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming visit to the country.

“We were able to talk and convey the great joy we feel that His Holiness the Pope is planning his visit to our country. We also told him that the government is available to handle all the coordination and ensure that this visit is long, successful, and above all, reaches as many Peruvians as possible,” she said.
