Mincetur Completed Restoration of the Bridge of Sighs in Barranco

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has completed restoration and reinforcement work on the iconic Puente de los Suspiros, one of the major tourist attractions in Barranco and Lima. The project cost S/ 1,027,354 and is intended to benefit both residents and visitors to this iconic site.

The minister, Rogers Valencia, announced last night the work carried out by Mincetur through the Executive Unit for Investment in Foreign Trade and Tourism (UICET), as part of the project “Improvement and Installation of Public Tourist Services along the ‘Discovering Barranco’ Tourist Route.”

Thanks to this project, several structural components, such as the wooden floor and railings—were restored and reinforced, while the beams were maintained and worn parts were replaced; disinfection treatments were also applied to preserve the bridge’s structural integrity.

Similarly, the historically significant street lamps were restored, and a new LED lighting system was installed, designed to highlight the beauty of the monument and its surroundings while respecting its original character at all times.

The work also included repairing the lime plaster on the walls and upgrading the electrical systems with specialized conduit, following technical criteria that ensure the interventions can be reversed and contribute to the preservation of the heritage site.

“Mincetur and UICET will continue our work. Our goal is to continue restoring the historic Ermita, such a beautiful and significant site,” said Minister Rogers Valencia.

With this project, Mincetur reaffirms its commitment to preserving cultural and tourism heritage, and to restoring iconic sites that enrich Lima’s tourism offerings and enhance the experience of those visiting the capital.

It is worth noting that the event was attended by UICET Executive Director Luis Hernán Mariluz, as well as local officials from Barranco, residents, and tourists.
