Starting August 26 access to Routes 1, 2, and 3 of the Camino Inca will resume

Starting this Wednesday, August 26, access to Routes 1, 2, and 3 of the Inca Trail will resume. The tourist infrastructure affected by the rains on August 17 and 18 has already been restored.

The Ministry of Culture announced that, starting this Wednesday, August 26, 2026, visitor access to Routes 1, 2, and 3 of the Inca Trail Network at the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu will be restored.

This measure follows the completion of technical inspections, repairs, cleanup, and restoration of the tourist infrastructure that sustained damage due to the rains on August 17 and 18. These efforts were undertaken to restore the safety and passability conditions required for the normal conduct of visits.

While the trails remained closed, the Cusco Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) and Sernanp conducted assessments in the affected areas and took the necessary steps to repair the damage caused by the rainfall, thereby ensuring that the trails are once again ready to receive visitors under appropriate conditions.

In addition, Route 5-Chachabamba will remain available as an alternative route, with access from kilometers 104 and 106. Scheduling requests and benefits for tourists affected by the temporary closure of the routes will continue to be processed as usual through official channels.

The Cusco Departmental Development Commission (DDC) and the National Service of Natural Heritage and Parks (Sernanp) will continue to constantly monitor weather conditions, as well as the condition and accessibility of the trails, in order to implement the necessary preventive measures and ensure the safety of visitors, staff, and tour operators working in this area.

Consequently, visitors and tour operators are urged to comply with current regulations and follow the instructions given by authorized personnel while on the Inca Trail Network, thereby contributing to the safe and orderly conduct of tourist activities.
