Áncash Has Welcomed More Than 450,000 Visitors So Far in 2026

The regional governor noted that this figure far exceeds the 160,000 visitors (both domestic and international) recorded the previous year. “Right now, Ancash is experiencing its best period ever in terms of tourism,” Noriega emphasized.

The regional governor indicated that, during the Independence Day holidays, the region welcomed more than 60,000 visitors via air travel alone. It is worth noting that, since July, the frequency of daily direct flights between Lima and Huaraz has doubled, reaching two per day. “July 28 was a remarkable day due to the enormous number of tourists (both Peruvian and foreign) who visited us,” Noriega commented.

Regarding access by land, the governor acknowledged that the region faces “a major challenge” in coordinating a road plan to restore passability on key routes, including the one leading to the district of Chavín, which he said is in a “disastrous” condition.

“If we develop a coordinated road plan, along with collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and private companies, Ancash will soon be competing with Cusco and other departments” in terms of tourist traffic, he said.

The official noted that the growth of tourism in Ancash is also due to the awards and recognition that its destinations have received from specialized media outlets and international organizations.

He also mentioned his recent participation in a meeting at the United Nations (UN), where he recently presented on the potential of the Ancash region.
